New Woman, July 2006
The Marketing Genius Amanda Stevens, 31, owns Splash Consulting Group, a company that specializes in marketing to women. With offices in Sydney and Melbourne, and Auckland to follow, the annual turnover is $3 million. Q. What do you do? A: We're fairly unique - Splash is the first company in Australia to offer guidance on how to market specifically to women. Q. How did you become successful? A: Hard work and a long-term commitment to a vision. Two years ago I was lucky enough to attract an investor. We ran a seminar on selling to women and he came along and then invited me to lunch because he was so impressed with what we were doing. It was a major turning point. Q. Is being successful everything you thought it would be? A: I guess that depends on how you define success. I didn't wake up one day and think, 'Wow, I'm successful!' It's more often a day-to-day thing - and some days I don't believe I'm successful at all. Q. What drives you? A: It might sound odd, but I truly love coming to work. I'm inspired by innovation and creativity. Q. Were you a nerd or a rebel at school? A: Both. I had fun at school and did well, but probably went off the rails more times than most. Q. What's your business mantra? A: Stay true to three things: your vision, your level of commitment to that vision, and your own definition of success. And whatever you do, make sure you're passionate about it. |
